CHARLESTON, WV -- The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia is pleased to announce that former Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose, who gained international attention while leading the investigation on the D.C. area sniper shootings, will be the keynote speaker for this year’s Bill of Rights Dinner to be held on Sunday, September 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston. The Bill of Rights Dinner is the ACLU of West Virginia’s annual benefit that brings together civil libertarians from around the state to celebrate the year’s past victories in defense of the Constitution, honor those who have helped to make those victories possible and look ahead to the challenges of the coming year by supporting our future work. “The ACLU is delighted to have such a prominent law enforcement official who is also a passionate and dedicated advocate of racial justice deliver the keynote address,” said Andrew Schneider, Executive Director of the ACLU of West Virginia. “His speech will be very timely given our recent success in helping to get a racial profiling data collection bill enacted into law.” Moose became one of America’s best-known law enforcement leaders because of his role as head of the multi-jurisdictional taskforce that successfully apprehended the serial snipers who terrorized suburban Washington, D.C. during the fall of 2002. Moose is currently serving as a racial profiling consultant for the ACLU. The ACLU of West Virginia will also honor West Virginia House Judiciary Chair Jon Amores and past ACLU of West Virginia Board Treasurer Louis Lieto for their contributions to civil liberties at the September 19 benefit. Tickets for the event are $70 and can be reserved by contacting the ACLU of West Virginia at (304) 345-9246.
