Numerous organizations and faith leaders from around the state called on Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin and members of Charleston City Council to vote “No” on a bill that would prohibit free speech and further criminalize poverty in West Virginia’s capital city.

In a letter to city officials, 21 organizations and faith leaders explain that the bill, which prohibits congregating at intersections the city deems “inherently dangerous,” will violate people’s free speech rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

City council will consider Bill No. 7889 tonight. We ask everyone in Charleston to reach out to the city council members and ask them to vote no on this unconstitutional bill.
