Dunbar's Proposed Anti-Panhandling Ordinance is Unconstitutional

The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia (ACLU-WV) informed the city of Dunbar today that its proposed ordinance restricting panhandling in city limits is unconstitutional.

ACLU-WV Files Records Request Over Restricted Library Book

The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia (ACLU-WV) has sent a records request to the Upshur County Public Library regarding the library's decision to restrict access to a children's book that features a same-sex love story.

The First Amendment, as well as rights to equal protections under the law, due process, and privacy are all at stake.

Charleston Should Rename Court Street

The American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia calls on the Charleston City Council to adopt a community proposal that would rename Court Street in downtown Charleston to a name that honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a pre-eminent voice of the Civil Rights Movement who led boycotts, advocated for nonviolent civil disobedience, and who was ultimately assassinated for his work in advocating for a more equitable society for people regardless of race.
