The Omnibus Education Bill is on the move and we’re doing everything we can to stop it. ACLU-WV Executive and Policy Directors, Joseph Cohen and Eli Baumwell, testified today at a public hearing on the direct harm the charter schools and education savings accounts (ESA) provisions will have on students in West Virginia.
Why is 451 a bad bill?
Ultimately, it’s unconstitutional, allows for taxpayer dollars to go to private schools that have discriminatory admission policies and creates a two-tiered system by diverting much needed resources from our public school system.
The legislature would better serve all children by using funds to make the public schools stronger and safer than by creating a new charter or ESA voucher program.
