ACLU-WV Executive Director Joseph Cohen recently had the opportunity to speak with members of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America about the critical constitutional importance of freedom of association and the right to petition your government – two core principles of the union movement.

However, the attacks on these fundamental principles are not the only attacks faced by members of unions this legislative session. Women, immigrants and LGBTQ individuals who make up every union are up against extreme measures intended to roll back their rights. To some politicians, they only serve as pawns in a cynical political bid to retain power. Because of this radical attempt to make political gains off the backs of the collective and the individual, we must stand strong together – no matter what it takes.
